Murat Aydemir

Murat Aydemir is one of the most famous tanbur performers in Turkey. He has successfully combined the knowledge and experience of the old generation of tanbur teachers with modern technics and ideas. Murat Aydemir was born in 1971 in Hanover, Germany. In 1982, he started his studies at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music Government Conservatory. He studied tanbur with Necip Gülses, and in 1992 he graduated from the Instrument Education Department. During 1989, he was a member of Cultural Ministry's Istanbul Government Classical Turkish Music Ensemble as a guest musician. Since 1990, Aydemir has been a member of the Presidential Classical Turkish Music Chorus and has performed many concerts in Turkey and abroad with this group. He also performed many concerts with Kudsi Erguner Ensemble in Turkey and abroad. He is a member of Cantemir Ensemble, with which has participated in various recordings, concerts, seminars and symposiums. Since 1997, he has been working with Incesaz, a group he founded with Cengiz Onural and Derya Türkan. Aydemir's music and compositions accompany many TV series and documentaries. He also plays lavta. Aydemir has been giving Makam and Tanbur lessons in Istanbul, at Anadolu University Open and Israel. Apart from his numerus albums, in 2010 he published the book Makam Guide about Turkish Music Makam.
